¶ About Nextcloud
Nextcloud is an open source file sync and share software made for use by both individuals and organizations of all sizes. It provides functionality similar to Dropbox, Office 365 or Google Drive. Our own instance of Nextcloud is a private and secure solution for May First members that we control and safeguard on our own servers.
May First members have access to our shared Nextcloud server at https://share.mayfirst.org/.
Through share.mayfirst.org, you can:
- Share files with your co-workers or friends via a folder on your computer or android or iphone. Learn how to share files with Nextcloud.
- Collaboratively edit files using a web browser - word processing documents, spreadsheet and presentations - that are automatically saved as OnlyOffice / MS Office compatible documents.
- Store up to 50GB (ask us for more space if you need it)
- Synchronize/backup/share your contacts and calendar to a trusted server (no need to send your contact list to Google)

¶ Nextcloud Apps
The Nextcloud server's functionality and features depend on a group of core apps and can be extended. In Mayfirst we have pre installed apps for your personal or collective use, you are going to see them like this:
Start learning what they are and how they can support your work, from cloud management (file sharing), text editing (markdown or only office), tasks, contact management and more.
¶ Where to use it: Desktop Client / Mobile Apps
Using the Nextcloud Desktop Sync Client, Android app, or iOS app you can sync files, calendars, contacts and other data to and from the server and to other devices. Also, installing a Free and open-source Software app will help you to keep your contacts, calendar and more updated. The best part: You are not forced to sell your data in exchange for access, you can learn how to use F-Droid here.

¶ Collaborative work
Of course it helps your individual digital life, but… do you know how these tools can improve your collective work? Start working with your organizations online documents,** polling** the best days for meetings, scheduling in a way that lets everyone choose and see the date, planning different tasks or simply sharing your documents to people outside your team. Its time to take collective control of the internet and overthrow the big tech companies with FOSS tools… are you in?
